Careers & Training
We work our cases as a team, with a lead counsel, a “2nd Chair” and other assisting counsel. Our directors and consultants provide mentorship to help each lawyer reach their personal goals, and to constantly “level-up” their skills, whether in legal content, drafting, client management, or work management.
We recognise that every lawyer is an individual. No one has the same working-style, and each time a team is formed for a matter we learn from each other’s processes to create better and more efficient practices for the firm as a whole. Juniors will not be thrown into the deep end without guidance and supervision.
Since 2022, we have committed to a hybrid work format with a flexible combination of work from home and work from office. The goal is efficiency, with the days “in” typically utilised for collaborative work tasks and client meetings. All lawyers enjoy 4 work weeks of annual leave (20 days) and additionally receive 3 further days of special “well-being” off days to be taken for rest and recuperation when you need it most.
We are tech-forward. Hard copies are actively discouraged. We are a bring-your-own-device firm, with IT programs to co-share laptop purchases with you, so you have the best hardware. We collaborate with our team members and clients virtually 98% of the time, leveraging on the Microsoft Teams and 365 platform for communication and document storage. We work with class-leading litigation support companies to use their tools and even enhance them. We work with IT specialists for data collection. There is no paper time-sheets or discovery by hard copies.
We used the Covid lockdown period to re-imagine and upgrade our office work premises to provide the best work environment to support the modern way of litigating. For “focus” work, every lawyer has their own enclosed office with ergonomic chairs, sit stand tables, and a dedicated hearing/web-conference facility. Every individual office is equipped with a minimum dual monitor setup, and a docking station; so it’s a one-cable plug-in when you come and go. You will not suffer the aggravation of wasting time playing with wires or lugging around charging bricks.
We seek team members who are ready to contribute, and be actively engaged in shaping their legal careers. The ideal candidate, young or old(er), or with more PQE or less, should apply if they have goals to improve their legal skills with us. Our work is constantly challenging, and a determination to find solutions is fundamental.
Aspiring team members should be open about their strengths and their weakness, and what they plan to achieve over the next three to five years. Hard-work is a necessary prerequisite, but is secondary to dedication to improve.
If shortlisted, candidates should expect to attend one or two interviews with the firm’s management and other team members. For more junior lawyers, a request will usually be made to demonstrate recent written work (an opinion or submissions) in order to gauge the present status of written advocacy and legal analysis.
